Layar Engagement Idea Poll

layar-logo

The makers of the mobile augmented reality (ar) browser Layar have been running a competition for the best “engagement” idea that goes beyond a simple “where is” function”. The shortlist of seven ideas has now been published and you can vote on the final winner. The nominees are, in no particular order:

AR Farmville
The Facebook Farmville game with your farm represented as an ar layer on top of the real world.

Geocaching game
Multiuser game where you solve riddles to identify locations then visit them in the real world and virtually “tag” them in ar.

Second Life/Google Maps Mashup
Allow people at home to interact with people at other locations in the real/virtual world regardless of actual physical location.

Find Your Tribe
Allow people at social/business gatherings to locate (or avoid!) people belonging to particular groups and lists.

Make the World a Safer Place
Share information on which roads are accident black spots, which areas of a city are unsafe at night, etc.

Layer Slayer
Virtual urban warfare where players must get close to opponents and use their virtual weapons to slay them.

Global Conquest
Visit public places and solve puzzles to raise your flag on that spot and make it part of your virtual nation.

You can vote here for your favourite suggestion. As I type this Layar Slayer is ahead with SecondLife/Google Maps Mashup running a close second.
