Follow Your Friends in AR
Posted December 4th, 2009 | in Augmented Reality, Lead Story | No Comments »Presselite has launched Twitter 360, a new app for the iPhone 3GS. Twitter 360 allows you to use Twitter’s geotagging feature to visualise the locations of other tweeters in augmented reality (AR). An app that combines Twitter, the iPhone, geotagging and AR – it’s a marketing department’s dream!
When you use Twitter 360, your tweets are automatically geotagged. If your Twitter friends are also using geotagging then the app allows you to visualise their locations, either on Google Maps or by an AR overlay on the iPhone’s camera view.
It’s cool, but clearly there are privacy issues. Fortunately Twitter geotagging is turned off by default and Twitter 360 provides an “invisible” mode. Twitter 360 is definitely a cool app, but make sure you really want to use it.
