Readers of T3 and Total Film magazines in the UK will soon get the chance to see an augmented reality ad for the new James Cameron movie Avatar. The special ad will appear in the UK December editions of both magazines.

The AR ad has been produced in association with electronics company LG in order to promote the new LG Chocolate LG-40 mobile phone. A key feature of the LG-40 is its wide screen.

Malcolm Stoodley of media group Future which publishes the magazines said:

With an audience of influential movie and technology advocates, the exclusive ‘Avatar’ footage showcases this pioneering new film and LG’s new mobile phone to T3 and Total Film readers like no other medium can deliver.

Using a webcam, readers of T3 and Total Film will be able to use the ad to trigger a trailer for Avatar. This will play on a user-controllable 3D model of the LG-40.

So it’s a movie ad on a virtual cellphone inside an augmented reality display triggered my a magazine ad… my head hurts!
