Augmented Doritos Showcase Blink 182 and Big Boi
Posted July 7th, 2009 | in Augmented Reality, Lead Story | No Comments »Doritos has a treat store for US fans of bands Blink 182 and Big Boi – the opportunity to have the band playing in the palm of your hand! Well, virtually.
A special symbol has been printed on limited edition bags of Doritos Late Night potato chips. Snackers can visit the Doritos Late Night website and point their webcam at the bag. They then get to choose which of the two bands they want to see perform. Blink have recorded two songs for Doritos (Rock Show and I Miss You), Big Boi one (Ringtone).
The recorded footage of the band appears on your screen with the Doritos bag as the “stage”. You can interact with the performance by moving and shaking the bag. At the end of the first Blink song you can bring the band back for an encore by making enough noise into your microphone!
According to Hunter Hindman of the ad agency behind the promotion:
This experience literally explodes out of the bag onto your screen. It’s almost like holding a hologram in your hand.

We’re always looking for innovative new ways to bring music to our fans, and an online 3-D performance was something we just had to be a part of. As big technology guys, we’re pumped that people can now experience a little bit of our summer tour through something as accessible as bag of Doritos and a computer. It’s very cool.
