To advertise the new film Autobots: Revenge of the Fallen, Paramount and Total Immersion have produced an augmented reality promotional site. Using an Active X plug-in and your webcam you can augment yourself and overlay your head with that of Optimus Prime. Alternately you can print out a special marker and generate your own pocket sized virtual Bumblebee.
It’s a cool piece of viral marketing, but I can’t help thinking that Paramount have missed a merchandising trick here. Why isn’t there a button on the site marked “Click here to buy your real world Transformers mask now”?
