Video Mirror Lets You Try On Virtual Specs

The best uses of augmented reality (AR) aren’t always the most spectacular. Glasses Direct has launched a simple application that allows you to see how different styles of glasses would look on you. A virtual “try before you buy”.

The Glasses Direct Video Mirror was created by FittingBox, a French company that specialises in AR software for the optical industry.

Of course you’ve been able to upload your picture and try on glasses etc for a while. What makes the Video Mirror different is that using your webcam it can track your head in 3d. As such it can generate virtual glasses to fit your head position, allowing you to see how different styles will look from various angles.

The Video Mirror app can be downloaded from the Glasses Direct website. It requires Windows XP or Vista.
