VR Industrial Plant System on Display
Posted May 25th, 2009 | in Commercial/Industrial | No Comments »Invensys Process Systems (IPS) has been demonstrating its new Immersive Virtual Reality Process (IVRP) at the Gastech Exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
IVRP, announced earlier this year, is due to be commercially available in September this year. The system applies virtual reality to the fields of plant management and process control for training and efficiency purposes. Plant blueprints are computerised and a virtual simulation generated. An operator can then wear a stereoscopic headset and experience a full plant walkthrough running at 60 frames a second. Reality is increased by using the IPS DYNSIM software to simulate plant processes and create training scenarios.
Maurizio Rovaglio of IPS says:
The ability to simulate complex processes in connection with virtual actions allows the user to directly experience an environment that changes over time, making it more effective at transferring skills learned in training to the work environment.
It’s not quite a holodeck simulation but it’s getting there…
